Welcome back! We have had a lovely break and have managed to weather the wintry extremes that we have had here lately without too much trouble. Now I am ready to get back to this wonderful corner of the blog world with enthusiasm and enjoyment. The holidays treated us well and I hope you all had some time for friends, family, and good food. We all spent the past week getting back into the usual routine. That means off to work for some of us and getting back into the swing of regular school lessons for the rest of us. Now I just have to get our homeschool schedule really rolling so I can have most of what we need to get done happening as part of the normal routine.
I have also been doing a lot of thinking, planning, and researching on the ever-interesting topic of food and nutrition. Our usual, mostly healthy eating had certainly slipped over the holidays and I am aiming to get things back to healthy again but I am also looking into options for getting good, real food close to home as the growing season starts again this spring. We really are so blessed to live it an area where we have such great access to a wide variety of real food and excellent suppliers. It would be almost criminal not to take advantage of it! So today I will be devoting a bit of my time to meal planning – both to help my food dollars stretch further and to minimize food waste as that always makes me feel guilty. Of course it helps that I love to be puttering in the kitchen, but even if you don’t love cooking there are still many ways you can bring good, healthy options into your family’s life. At a time when so many people are making resolutions to get healthier and/or lose weight, here are 3 tips to improve your diet. And even if you only use these three your diet is guaranteed to change for the better.
1. Eat produce and healthy protein at every meal.
2. Strive to eat 10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
3. Drink water – lots of it!
What do you think? Are you striving to be healthier this year? Any other advice to share that is good for all of us? I wish you all the very best of everything that 2014 has to offer from our family to yours!
